Take a cue from squirrels and start including nuts in your diet, it’s good for you! A recent study by the University of California, Berkeley shows that regular consumption of nuts can reduce the risk for coronary heart disease. Nuts, such as peanuts, almonds and cashews are found to be rich in unsaturated fats, vitamin E, fiber, folic acid and other B vitamins. Walnuts are especially rich in heart-healthy oil. Recent clinical trials have found that consumption of various nuts can lower serum LDL cholesterol concentrations. They also have a very low glycemic index making them ideal for people with insulin resistance problems such as diabetes mellitus type 2.
So snack on nuts. It is better and healthier for you than potato chips. Just be sure to choose the unsalted variety and as with any food, enjoy them in moderation.
